God is a family God

God is the family God, three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This is the first family, the original family; every other family derives from this family, the divine family. We are invited into this family by the Father through ‘the door’ who is the Son (Jesus) and by the new-life power of the Holy Spirit. And then we live in that endless family circle of love.

The word ‘trinity’ is not in the Bible but the idea is all over the New Testament. Open the NT at almost any page and you will see Father, Son and Holy Spirit working together in perfect teamwork for salvation and the good of his people. Romans 8 is a particularly rich experience of this where the Holy Spirit alone (usually the least-mentioned of the three) is mentioned 19 times.

It is a great thing to have a good father… It is more wonderful to have a Father in heaven who loves us, looks after us, provides for us, protects us, comforts us and gives us good gifts. It is the greatest reason for believers (who are children of God) not to worry any more (Matthew 6:25 ff.)

The biblical way to stop worrying is to: THINK (Matthew 6:25); PRAY (Phil. 4:6) and TRUST (John 14:1).

The biblical way to overcome sins like anger, bitterness, envy, lust..  is to think, pray and try. We need to think biblically to renew our minds (Romans 12:2), we need to pray for grace to strengthen us (James 4:6) because we cannot do it ourselves (as we well know) and then (on that foundation of the Word and Spirit of God) we need to try, to ‘make every effort’ (Hebrews 12:14).
